New-Technology Shipboard System Converts Heat from Engine Jacket Water

The White Paper presents findings from the initial voyage of MV Arnold Maersk with a Calnetix Hydrocurrent™ waste heat recovery system. Hydrocurrent uses an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) process and proprietary turbo generator technology to convert heat from engine jacket water into usable electricity for shipboard consumption. The system produced 110 to 115 kW while underway, during which the crew reduced power to the cooling water pump. When operated at full cooling water flow it produced 125k
